Davis instructing a former volunteer (and current Board Member) Robert Stewart how to crack open and install hardware on a Macbook Pro:
Davis Xu, Founder/CEO of the Missing Pieces Foundation, is a graduate of San Francisco University High School. After studying at Columbia University in New York, he decided to take some time off to establish the nonprofit. He strongly believes that every child deserves a quality education, and set up the Foundation in 2012 to provide bright but low-income students with Apple Laptops, preinstalled with schoolwork software.
Furthermore, he is committed to reducing waste in the environment, thus refurbishing and upgrading used/broken Macs to prevent them from going into landfill. Recently, he also launched the "Charity Within a Charity" Plan, helping underpaid Foxconn laborers (who build new Macs) in China by allocating 25% of MPF funding towards them.
As a professional ninja-like audiophile, Davis also serves as current CFO of AudioCritlc LLC of Amazon.com, with the vast majority of his proceeds directed towards MPF.
His skills in repairing Apple computers started with his own defective Macbook Pro (8 days out of AppleCare warranty, mind you); he then expanded to repairing Macs for family and friends.
What started as a craigslist ad for an old Apple Laptop eventually turned into The Missing Pieces Foundation. He got a pretty low offer for the computer, but decided to take it anyways because it was for an aspiring 8th grade student with a low-income single mother. Then, he thought, why not give it away for free? And the organization was born.
Xingyu "Rowen" Wei, the current CFO of the Missing Pieces Foundation, is a graduate of Brown University. He is responsible for outreach and fundraising, and manages the New York (Upstate) Branch.
Rowen's specialties lie in social media, the Adobe suite and other design tools. He also brings with him substantial field experience, such as in social advocacy. He will be spearheading a new social-media/crowdfunding campaign In this year. In his spare time he enjoys both graphic design and the fine arts.
Having worked with Davis extensively in the past, Rowen is on the same wavelength and is ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
He is also a professional Ninja.
... and a big thanks to ALL OUR OTHER BOARD MEMBERS (Susan, Matt, Spencer, Dauping, Jonathan) AND VOLUNTEERS! We couldn't have done it without you!
